When you hear the word “tradition” what comes to mind?
For some, that word might be comforting.  For others, “tradition” might be stifiling.
Or something else entirely!

One of the defintions of “tradition” from the Merriam-Webster Dictionary is, “the handing down of information, beliefs, and customs by word of mouth or by example from one generation to another without written instruction.”

This is a time of year where traditions might especially be on our minds with Thanksgiving soon to come and Christmas on the horizon.
From secret family receipes to opening up one present Christmas Eve night, there’s all sorts of traditions we inherit or create within our families.

And let’s face it, we talk about traditions all the time in churches too.
The Holly Fair, which will be held this Saturday the 18th, is a tradition of Colchester Federated Church.  It has changed here and there over the years, but the tradition of a church fair in November remains.
Many churches have bazaars around this time of year.  Different names and different iterations, but still!  The tradition of a Christmasy Church Fair is here to stay.

Hope to see you on Saturday at our wonderful CFC Holly Fair, and have a wonderful Thanksgiving next week!

Love,
Pastor Lauren
