Last time there was a heat wave here in Colchester, we were all a bit cranky in the Ostrout household. None of us are the biggest fans of hot weather. We were running our window A/C unit downstairs and placed a fan angled toward the couch to help cool the air even more. But yikes, it was just too hot.
Imagine our surprise when Hildy sauntered over to the fan (the fan that was off at the time, I might add) and dramatically swiped her paw down. Neill and I looked at each other and looked over at Hildy. Hildy looked expectantly at us.
Then she turned her back and did it again. Wham with her paw scraping the fan. We began to laugh and I asked, “Did she just demand we turn on the fan?” I got up from the couch, pet her for a bit, and turned on the fan. Sure enough, Hildy plopped down right away in front of the fan with a look of triumph? contentment? relief? I’ll let you decide.
All I know is that sometimes you gotta ask for what you need, take it from Hildy.
I thought of this amusing moment this week as we are going through another heat wave in our area.
In times like these, it’s good to look out for one another!
Be well in the meantime, everyone.
Love,
Pastor Lauren
