In the movie Love Actually there’s this wonderful scene where Daisy wants to share big news with her mother Karen.  Karen hangs up the phone, turns to her daughter and asks, “What’s the big news then?”
Daisy: We’ve been given our parts in the nativity play. And I’m the lobster.
Karen: The lobster?
Daisy: Yeah!
Karen: In the nativity play?
Daisy: [beaming] Yeah, first lobster.
Karen: There was more than one lobster present at the birth of Jesus?
Daisy: Duh.

It makes me laugh every time.  Seeing the earnestness of Daisy who is so excited to play the first lobster in the nativity play.  Later in the movie, we can see that the tableau at her school includes lobsters, an octopus, and even a whale!  Apparently all of creation was present to witness the birth of Jesus in that particular production.

Now it may seem funny to even be thinking about Christmas Pageants right now. But in the church world we begin to plan for Advent and Christmas in the fall. That’s just how it goes!

I happen to love Christmas pageants and we’ve had some great ones in my time here at CFC—We Text you a Merry Christmas, Christmas Science, and the ABCs of Christmas.  This year will be another terrific pageant, though it’s going to be yet another new one.  This year’s CFC Christmas Pageant will be virtual and we would love to have wide participation in our congregation because it’s intergenerational, not just for our littlest ones!  So we hope that you will sign up for this year’s Christmas Pageant (please see the specific instructions from Nicole below).)  For all are welcome to witness and celebrate the birth of Jesus Christ among us, yes, even some lobsters if you’d like.

Love,
Pastor Lauren
