“Whenever I’m afraid, I put my trust in you.” (Psalm 56:3)
This week has been all about Vacation Bible School here at CFC.
VBS is our church at our best!
We have around 40 children participating this summer and 32 youth and adult volunteers. It’s also wonderful to have children who were past participants back as youth helpers.
This year’s theme is Camp Firelight, and we are on a summer camp adventure with God!
Just in case you don’t know how VBS goes around here, we begin each day together at an Opening Assembly in the Sanctuary. At Camp Firelight, we start our days off with Counselor Sam and Lumen the Firefly chatting about their camp adventures. Counselor Sam and Lumen send the campers off for their own adventures. The groups (divided by age) spend the day at various stations: Games in the Gym, Crafts in the Jerusalem Room, Snacks in the Stage Room, Music in the Lounge, and Bible Stories in the Library. Our days end at a Closing Assembly back in the Sanctuary with Lumen and Counselor Sam sending our campers back home with their families.
This week, the children are engaging with some wonderful stories from our faith tradition. The various stations help reinforce the stories and the themes found within them.
At Camp Firelight, we’ve been learning:
-God Goes with Jacob (Genesis 28:10-22) ~ Trust God to Go with Us!
-Ruth Chose to Go (Ruth 1) ~ Trust God to Lead the Way!
-Young Jesus Shares Wisdom (Luke 2:41-52) ~ Trust God to Share Wisdom!
-Jesus Calms the Storm (Mark 4:35-41) ~ Trust God to Give Us Peace!
-The Good News Sparks Joy (Acts 8:26-40) ~ Trust God to Spark Joy!
It has been quite a week already, with the rest of today and tomorrow yet to go.
Thank you, thank you to everyone who has helped and is helping with VBS.
It’s an important ministry that our church provides to our congregation and to the wider community (and it’s always a blast)!
Love,
Pastor Lauren
